Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered into a search box is sent to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. King William County Criminal History does not keep a separate site log of the words entered into partner search fields.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to review it, respond, and preserve needed records. Direct submissions are not shared outside the operating team unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Web servers and analytics systems can record basic technical details when a visitor loads a page:
- The device's internet protocol address
- The browser family and version
- The operating system and general device type
- Pages viewed and approximate time spent on them
- A referring website, when one is supplied
- The date and time associated with a request
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved by a browser. They and analytics services help measure aggregate traffic, popular pages, navigation paths, and exits. Browser controls can block or remove cookies. Disabling them may change how some website functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Operating, maintaining, and improving website performance
- Routing a submitted query to the selected search partner
- Measuring which resources visitors use
- Diagnosing errors, misuse, and security problems
- Supporting advertising, including interest-based advertising where used
No Criminal-Record Data on File
King William County Criminal History does not host, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to the Sheriff's Office, Virginia court clerks, VSP CCRE, VADOC, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Virginia Code § 19.2-389 governs authorized CCRE dissemination, while § 9.1-913 governs public registry access and misuse. Those laws apply to official systems; visitor data collected here is not assembled into a consumer report or third-party criminal file.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies provide the search tools. A query sent through one of those tools is subject to that company's privacy terms, retention rules, and disclosure practices. Review the provider's policy before submitting information because this policy does not control partner processing.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to King William County offices, Virginia courts, VSP, VADOC, the state registry, legal resources, or commercial search services. Once a visitor follows an outside link, the destination's privacy policy governs that interaction. Review it before supplying personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own technology to measure activity across websites and select ads. Their systems, not this website's policy, govern that outside tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold by this website. Limited information may be disclosed to:
- A search partner chosen to process a query
- Analytics providers measuring use and performance
- Advertising networks serving or measuring advertisements
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under valid legal process
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards are used for collected data. No internet transmission, storage service, or security control is guaranteed to prevent every loss, breach, or unauthorized access.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. A verified request concerning a minor's submitted data will be reviewed for deletion as required by applicable law.
Your Data Rights
Applicable privacy law may provide rights over personal data. The Virginia Freedom of Information Act, Va. Code §§ 2.2-3700 through 2.2-3715, concerns public records held by covered government bodies; VFOIA does not turn this private website into a county records custodian. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Request access to personal information held about that visitor
- Ask that inaccurate personal information be corrected
- Seek deletion when the law provides that remedy
- Exercise an available opt-out right for covered processing
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as website practices or legal duties change. A replacement policy becomes available on this page with its effective date.
