Need an Official Record?
Use the office tied to the record type. The sheriff, two court clerks, and Virginia State Police maintain different files:
- Circuit criminal files: contact the Circuit Court Criminal Division for felony, appeal, sealing, and expungement files
- General District files: contact that clerk for misdemeanors, traffic cases, and felony preliminary proceedings
- Sheriff reports: contact the King William County Sheriff's Office for records created by its deputies
- Virginia criminal histories: use the VSP Criminal Justice Information Services Division and Central Criminal Records Exchange
- Police incident reports: request the report from the agency that created it, including West Point Police for town-originated events
- Corrections or registry data: use VADOC or the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry
